Azerbaijani-Ukrainian Friendship Alley inaugurated in Kyiv

Tree planting event, held within the framework of the “Year of Solidarity for the Green World” announced in Azerbaijan by the Embassy of Azerbaijan in Ukraine and the Kyiv City Hall in Natalka Park, was attended by the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Environmental Policy and Environmental Management Oleg Bondarenko, Deputy Mayor of the capital Petro Panteleyev, public activists, and representatives of the diaspora, AZERTAJ reports.

Speaking at the event, the Ambassador of Azerbaijan to Ukraine Seymur Mardaliyev said that today's event demonstrates how important joint activities are for environmental protection. Green cities are a symbol of life, health, and sustainable development. “This year is of particular importance for Azerbaijan in the context of environmental initiatives. The 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) was held in Baku. The event emphasized the importance of global cooperation in combating climate change and strengthened Azerbaijan's commitment to contribute to creating a more sustainable world. This project is being implemented in accordance with the Decree of the President of Azerbaijan on declaring 2024 in Azerbaijan the “Year of Solidarity for the Green World”. Our participation in the event is another step towards achieving these goals. We are confident that our cooperation will be an important contribution to improving the environmental situation in Kyiv and another symbol of strong friendship between Azerbaijan and Ukraine,” the diplomat added.

Expressing gratitude to the Azerbaijani state for the project, Deputy Mayor of Kyiv P.Panteleyev noted in his speech that the laying of the alley is a vivid example of friendly relations between the two countries. The Azerbaijani state is also making its contribution to the green world in Ukraine. In a talk with an AZERTAJ correspondent, he said: “Despite the cold weather and difficult days in Ukraine, today we made a gesture that testifies to the strong friendship between our peoples. Today, one of our priorities is further improving the environment. Despite the difficult times, we believe that one of the indicators of sustainability is the attitude towards ecology and the joint expansion of green areas. That is why today we planted beautiful trees and shrubs. This park will become greener and Kyiv residents will be happy to relax here next spring. That is why we thank our Azerbaijani partners and friends for participating in today's action."

Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Environmental Policy and Environmental Management O. Bondarenko in an interview with AZERTAJ also thanked the Azerbaijani state for the support provided. "This is a wonderful initiative. I believe that the laid alley will give a new look to the Natalka Park. In a year, we will see flowering trees, we will feel a further improvement in the environmental situation. Here we will see how happy the children are, playing with their parents. This action is a great start, it just needs to be supported," he said.

It should be noted that another tree planting event will be held on the alley laid out on the right bank of the Dnieper River and a memorial plaque, symbolizing Azerbaijani-Ukrainian friendship, will be installed during coming spring.
